The Sandbox

Reading Landscapes. Exploring Across Practices. Following the Threads.
The call for economic models that are more equitable, sustainable, and responsive to 21st-century complexities is growing louder, challenging the fundamental assumption that eco-logy and eco-nomy are separate. If the economy is understood as a nested system within nature - operating within ecological realms and boundaries - then rethinking our economic model requires more than acknowledging our dependence on the living world. It requires understanding what genuine co-creation with the More-than-Human actually looks like in practice.
What challenges and opportunities arise when such approaches are put to work? What do they enable? Where do they encounter friction? And how far have we come in our ability to meaningfully apply them?
The Co-Creation with the More-than-Human Sandbox is a space for doing this type of experiential learning: bringing different approaches into conversation, learning across them, and following what emerges.
We shine a light on both emerging and more established approaches and praxes - from Rights of Nature and nature governance to more-than-human design in practice, indigenous science, leveraging ecological intelligence, and other ways of relating to, engaging, and co-creating with the living world. We explore how they work, what they reveal, where they run into limitations, and what they might make possible beyond their immediate contexts.
Over time, this creates something more than a collection of distinct explorations. It creates an accumulating body of field intelligence: a way of seeing what is taking shape across different practices, what becomes visible when they are considered alongside one another, and where new possibilities are starting to take root.
The Sandbox is hosted jointly by The Repatterning Collective and Kincentric Leadership. Its activities currently include online Learning Sessions, using semi-structured dialogue and discussion, as well as Field Dialogues, with written syntheses drawing together and distilling the insights, questions, tensions, and connections that emerge.
These are complemented by Reframes, which provide a working lens on the broader field. Finally, we follow some of these threads to turn sensemaking into further inquiry, experimentation, and prototyping.
